Subtitle or Audio?
To subtitle or dub is the big question when localizing video or digital files for foreign markets. Subtitling can be a lot less expensive, but for most productions, for most markets, audiences strongly prefer audio in their own language. Subtitles can distract viewers from the picture, so should only be used for training purposes with caution. Subtitles work best when substituting for off-camera voices.

The Subtle Art of Subtitling
Good subtitling begins with a succinct translation by an experienced subtitler, and good subtitling translators are hard to find. We try to keep subtitles at two lines per slate so viewers can still see the screen and follow the action. When space and time is at a premium, words must be carefully chosen. After customer approval, translations go to production for subtitle composition and output.
