I think that they can also ‘talk’ over much longer distances because the waves travel much further than sound

Yep, elephants use seismic waves to communicate. I think there is a theory that, using this method, elephants can also predict earthquakes.

Great read. Just to shed some light on why elephant communication is so advance. Elephants lives in herds and such efficient methods of communication has developed over the years by the force of evolution.
